FAQ: SNOOZ: Sound. Sleep.

Why not just use an app?

Apps are convenient but phone speakers are incapable of producing rich, natural sound like SNOOZ. Think about playing music: phone speakers are great in a pinch but, if you’re going to spend time listening to music, you’re going to want to find headphones or better speakers. Further, many digital apps or machines rely on looping tracks so your mind picks up on the pattern and the device that is supposed to help you sleep actually has the opposite effect. SNOOZ doesn’t rely on a recording or some mathematical algorithm, its sound is truly random and natural, and it never loops. Last updated: Tue, Sep 1 2015 11:25 am EDT

Does SNOOZ blow air around the room?

SNOOZ is designed to convert nearly all the energy of the fan into generating sound, and not moving air around a room. For this reason, at an equal sound decibel level, SNOOZ uses about 98% less energy than a typical room fan. As a result, you get that same familiar fan sound, but nearly zero disturbance to the surrounding air. Last updated: Tue, Sep 1 2015 11:27 am EDT

Will SNOOZ work internationally?

Yes. The electronics of SNOOZ can accept input voltages between 100-240 volts (i.e. it’s compatible around the world), though it will require a plug adapter in most locations outside North America (but not a voltage converter). Eventually, we’d love to provide international versions but we’re planning to ship SNOOZ with a Type A power plug (U.S./Canada/Mexico). Also, we love you. Last updated: Wed, Sep 2 2015 12:18 am EDT

What does SNOOZ sound like?

SNOOZ sounds like a fan. On the one end of the spectrum, SNOOZ produces light fan sound (that you might hear from an oscillating stand fan), on the other end, SNOOZ produces a deep fan sound (that you might associate with an airplane cabin). You can adjust the tone to your liking with a smooth rotation of the outer shell. Last updated: Tue, Sep 1 2015 11:27 am EDT

I think I sleep fine, why in the world would I want this thing?

Sleep quality is as important as sleep quantity. SNOOZ raises the sound baseline in your bedroom to reduce the startle factor. For example, in a study completed by the University of Chicago Medical School (and documented on 60 minutes, below), a healthy adult was allowed to sleep a full eight hours every night, but a sound disturbance was intermittently played to disrupt his deep sleep cycle; within two-weeks he was prediabetic. https://www.youtube.com/watch… Last updated: Sun, Sep 6 2015 5:04 pm EDT

Is there a way to use the nursery sound calibration without the phone app?

Included with your SNOOZ will be safe-use documentation, where, based on your room dimensions and the device proximity from a crib, you can estimate a safe volume level. Last updated: Tue, Sep 1 2015 11:27 am EDT

Which mobile operating systems will be supported?

The SNOOZ app will work on both Android and iOS! Last updated: Tue, Sep 1 2015 11:27 am EDT

Will your app use Bluetooth or WiFi?

The SNOOZ app will use Bluetooth to ensure maximum travel friendliness! Last updated: Thu, Sep 3 2015 2:45 am EDT

Does SNOOZ ever need to be cleaned?

SNOOZ is engineered so the energy goes into producing sound and not moving air, so the inflow and outflow are close to zero. As a result of this design, dust, pet hair, and anything else are not filtered through the device like a common fan and aren’t able to collect and should not be a problem. In inspecting our test users’ devices, so far we have not found any dust buildup inside the unit or around the vent areas (with over six months of usage). Last updated: Tue, Oct 13 2015 12:55 am EDT

Can I set SNOOZ to turn off at specific time?

Yes! In addition to a timer you can also set a specific time for SNOOZ to shut off. Last updated: Tue, Oct 13 2015 12:55 am EDT

If my phone dies during the night or becomes disconnected from SNOOZ will the timer function still work?

Yes. Commands are uploaded and stored on SNOOZ (not on your phone). Therefore, you can disconnect from SNOOZ and the functions you set will continue to work each night. Also, if you reconnect or connect a new phone to SNOOZ you will be able to see what commands were previously set. Last updated: Tue, Oct 13 2015 12:55 am EDT

Can I control multiple SNOOZs from the app?

Yes! You will be able to toggle between devices within the app. No need to drop and re-pair! Last updated: Tue, Oct 13 2015 12:55 am EDT

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
